Vanesa is a one-year-old baby girl from Guatemala who has malnutrition.
In the short term, malnutrition means Vanesa has little energy to grow and that her immune system is weak. If Vanesa does not receive treatment, she will also face malnutrition’s long-term consequences, such as increased risk of chronic diseases, low IQ, and higher likelihood of dropping out of school.
Fortunately, Vanesa will begin receiving treatment from our partner’s care center, Clinic Tecpán, on January 19. The treatment will cost $437.
With treatment, Vanesa will grow into a strong, healthy child and will have the energy to do the things she loves, like playing with her two older siblings.
Vanesa’s parents express their gratitude, saying, “We are very happy and content, because nobody had given us this opportunity. So we thank the institution for the help and for coming to the community.”

Vanesa received successful malnutrition treatment.
Since beginning treatment for malnutrition, Vanesa has been gaining weight and growing taller. Due to the aid of the program, Vanesa’s mother has been able to buy more fruits and vegetables for her daughter to eat, and she says that she has learned many new things in the nutrition classes. With continued treatment, we are confident that Vanesa will continue to grow and thrive.
Vanesa’s mother says, “I have seen changes in my daughter in both her growth and her behavior, as she is happier and more sociable now, which makes me glad. Thank you to the donors for the effort you make for children, and especially for my daughter.”
