“I can’t wait to be pain free,” says Turyamureeba, “I have suffered a lot and I hope I will be happy again.”
Turyamureeba is a 43-year-old single mother of four from Uganda. She earns an income by washing clothes for people around her town. However, the severe pain, headaches, and general body weakness she experiences from her condition–chronic pelvic inflammatory disease–has made it difficult for her to take care of her children. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), says that “Turyamureeba had to give away 2 of her children to relatives although she still pays their school fees.”
AMHF adds, “if not treated, Turyamureeba will continue to have chronic pelvic pain and this condition may lead to irreversible damage to the female reproductive system.”
With $165, Turyamureeba’s pain will be resolved after undergoing a total abdominal hysterectomy. AMHF expects that “Turyamureeba will be able to work and take care of her children.”
