“Sok Lang is very excited to go back to school after she gets out of the hospital,” our partners in Cambodia at the Children’s Surgical Centre tell us.
Meet Sok Lang, a shy 10-year-old sister of nine siblings. She enjoys playing soccer with her friends and family. She has a meningoencephalocele (MEC), which is a sac of fluid, brain tissue, and meninges (membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord) that extends out of the skull. This causes a small bulge in her face, and left untreated puts her at risk of developing serious health complications.
For $390, she can receive the necessary surgery and bone graft that will allow her to grow and develop normally. Lets help Sok Lang get the treatment she needs!

Sok Lang had her surgery date delayed after further consultation.
“It was determined that Sok Lang was not a good candidate for meningoencephalocele surgery after the CT scan results came back,” says our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC).
CSC advised Sok Lang to wait two years, at which point the surgery will have a higher likelihood of success. CSC will still be able to submit Sok Lang for Watsi funding when this time comes.
