Leap is an eight-year-old girl from Cambodia. She is the youngest of two children and is in the third grade. She lives in Phnom Penh with her parents, who both work for an organization that helps children. Her older brother is in Grade 6. She enjoys reading and writing Khmer at school, and in her free time, she likes drawing pictures. Her favorite foods are fried ginger with pork and chicken.
On May 9th, 2026, Leap fell and fractured the medial epicondyle of her left elbow. She underwent fracture repair surgery, and the fracture has now healed. Although her elbow has healed and she has good movement, she still experiences pain and discomfort around the left elbow, particularly when the area is touched. The remaining pins that were placed to facilitate healing are causing discomfort and need to be removed.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On October 1st, Leap will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will cost $378. This procedure will help relieve the discomfort around the healed fracture and allow her to continue using her arm more comfortably. Her doctors will also monitor the alignment of her elbow over the coming year.
Leap’s mother said, “My daughter can move her elbow well now, but she still feels pain and discomfort when someone touches it. I hope the pins can be removed safely so she will feel more comfortable and can use her arm normally again.”
