Yoeut is a cassava farmer and mother of four from Cambodia. She lives with her husband and four children in Kampong Thom province. Their children range in age from 8 - 23 years old, with the youngest in primary school and the two eldest working in a local cafe to help support the family. Both Yoeut and her husband work as cassava farmers. She spends her free time with her children and enjoys watching Cambodian dramas on her phone.
When she was 17 years old, Yoeut had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Yoeut experiences itching, ear discharge, and decreased hearing in her right ear. The condition has worsened over the last few years and affects her ability to hear clearly, especially on the right side. She relies on her left ear to hear and struggles to understand conversations, which affects her daily communication and quality of life.
Yoeut traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On July 15, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $363 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
Yoeut shared, “After surgery, I hope I can hear more clearly what people are saying and not worry about this problem anymore.”
