Pov is a 59-year-old truck driver from Kampot province, Cambodia. He is divorced with one daughter and one grandchild. He lives with a close friend and enjoyed working as a driver for a small company until his vision deteriorated making it impossible for him to continue driving. In his free time, he likes to scroll through Facebook, stay connected on social media, and keep up with the latest news.
About eight months ago, Pov developed a cataract in his right eye causing him blurry vision which has gradually worsened. It has become difficult for him to drive in the evening or night, and recognizing things has become a challenge. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. He is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own.
When Pov learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On December 10th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Pov can contribute $100 but needs help to raise $153 more to fund this procedure.
Pov shared, “I am hopeful that after having this operation, I can return to work and drive with confidence again.”
