Sok is an 83-year-old loving grandmother and retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She is married with two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. Since retiring, Sok and her husband have been supported by their youngest daughter, who is also a rice farmer. At home, Sok likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio and visit with her grandchildren. About four years ago, Sok developed a cataract in her left eye, causing photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. She also has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she cannot go out alone. When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $253 to fund her procedure. Sok contributed $100 to her care. Sharing her hopes for what her life will be like after surgery, Sok said: "I hope I can see my grandchildren more clearly and help my husband more around the house."

Buradina is a 72-year-old farmer from Uganda. She and her husband had three children together, but sadly her husband and two of her children have passed away. For the past twenty years, Buradina has experienced severe abdominal pain, back pain, and swelling. Due to her pain, Buradina has been unable to work and earn a living. Buradina was diagnosed with uterine fibroids, a type of noncancerous growth in the uterus, and a cystocele, a condition where abdominal support tissue weakens. To relieve her pain, Buradina needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. However, due to her current inability to work, Buradina can't pay for her treatment on her own. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $219 to fund Buradina's surgery. On June 8th, she will undergo a hysterectomy at AMH's care center. Once recovered, Buradina will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Buradina says, "I am a very vulnerable elderly mother, and I appeal for your possible support. I myself cannot raise the required money. I will resume farming when all is well."

Pamella is a 22-year-old farmer from Uganda. Both of her parents are farmers. Pamella completed primary education up to the seventh grade, but the family did not have sufficient funds to allow Pamella to pursue further studies. She stayed at home, farming with her parents, until she got married. Her husband is a small-scale farmer and occasionally is able to work in other people’s gardens to earn extra funds. Pamella also engages in small-scale farming, but their combined income cannot cover the cost of her necessary surgery. For about eight years, Pamella has had a swelling on her right thigh. She has undergone attempts at incision and drainage, but unfortunately, there was no improvement. This mass restricts her movements, preventing her from walking far. It causes Pamella severe pain in her affected leg, and significantly impacts her quality of life. If the mass is left untreated, Pamella will continue to live in pain, with disfigurement, discomfort, and persistent swelling. Pamella traveled to our medical partner African Mission Healthcare's care center to receive treatment. On November 8th, surgeons will remove the mass from Pamella's thigh. Now, Pamella needs help to raise $137 to fund this procedure. Pamella says, “My hopes are in you donors to support my surgery since I don't have any other alternative, and I hope to resume my working after surgery."
