Songsak is a 17-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives with his parents in Kandal province and is the oldest child with two younger brothers. He is in grade 12. Songsak’s parents are rice farmers. His mother also sells tourist trinkets in Phnom Penh to earn extra money. This helps to feed her rapidly growing sons. At school, Songsak is good in math and he would like to go to medical school someday. When he is home from school, Songsak likes to ride his bicycle with his friends.
Over the past few months, Songsak noticed a growing mass behind his right ear. The mass is hot and painful and he has trouble concentrating in school. He often has a headache and feels poorly. His mother is worried this infection could spread further into his brain.
Songsak traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On January 28th, surgeons at Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will remove the mass. Songsak’s family can contribute $50 to his care but needs help to raise $223 more to fund his procedure.
Songsak said: “I hope to be free from this infection so I can finish school and be healthy.”
