Eric is a 48-year-old man from DR Congo, but presently lives in a refugee settlement in Uganda. Eric and his family were forced to flee due to instability in their country, and have now lived in Uganda eight years, trying to rebuild their lives. To support themselves and care for their children, Eric and his wife engage in farming on a rented piece of land. Since he was the age of six, Eric has had a right reducible inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through a weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. The condition has caused significant discomfort and has affected most of his life. He experiences pain when lying on his stomach or back, making it difficult for him to sleep comfortably. Eric sought treatment at several health facilities, but he was mainly given painkillers, which did not provide lasting relief. Over time, his condition has continued to affect his well-being, and he has become increasingly weak. When Eric heard about a medical outreach organized by the hospital, he went in for examination by the surgical team, who recommended surgery to treat his condition. Fortunately, on August 4th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at Rwibaale Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Eric's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Eric says, "I hope to be able to bend and do my daily activities after recovery."

Mengleang is a four-year-old kindergarten student from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal Province with her parents. Her father is a farmer, and her mother works in a garment factory. She is the youngest of three children - her older brother works in a beverage factory, and her sister is in Grade 11. She enjoys learning Khmer reading and writing and loves playing dolls with her friends. She dreams of becoming a nurse in the future. For the past four months, Mengleang has been experiencing sore throat, loud snoring, difficulty breathing at night, and trouble swallowing food and drinking water. Mengleang was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Mengleang, which is scheduled to take place on May 21st. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Mengleang of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Her mother said: “I am very worried to see my daughter struggling to breathe and sleep at night. I hope this treatment will help her breathe easily, sleep peacefully, and grow up healthy without pain or discomfort.”

Koemleng is a 26-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She lives with her husband, a factory worker, and their four-year-old son. In her free time, Koemleng enjoys listening to music. In January 2026, Koemleng was involved in a motor vehicle accident that caused fractures of her right leg. She underwent fracture repair surgery, but the surgical site on her shinbone later got infected. The infection has been causing ongoing challenges with her leg, including stiffness, limited movement in her right knee, tingling and a foot drop. When Koemleng learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for five hours seeking treatment. On September 16th, surgeons at CSC will perform a debridement procedure to remove damaged and infected tissue from her right leg, along with removal of the implant. The treatment will help control the infection, support wound healing, and prepare her leg for further recovery. Koemleng is contributing towards her treatment, but needs help to fund an additional $412 for the procedure. She said, “I hope the surgery will help clean the infection from my leg and allow it to heal properly. I want to recover step by step, start walking again with physiotherapy, and return to my normal daily activities.”
