Kyarisiime is a 20-year-old mother of two sons from Uganda. For the last three years, Kyarisiime has had a large submandibular mass. She has discomfort while swallowing, and difficulty turning her neck. When Kyarisiime was first reviewed by doctors, she was expecting a child, so her treatment was postponed. After a successful delivery of her baby, she came back for her needed surgery, albeit without an ability to fund the care she needs.
Kyarisiima shared that she was not fortunate to be able to go to school. Her parents were young when they had her and were not able to pay for her school fees. She first worked as a helper at a home before being married. Her husband is a bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) driver and she cultivates crops. Their income is not enough to make ends meet and afford the cost of surgery. Kyarisiima and her family appeal for help.
Kyarisiime traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On December 22nd, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $196 to fund this procedure.
Kyarisiime shared, “I hope that once my surgery goes on well, I will be able to have a new life as I continue with farming.”
