Chhy is a 10-year-old student, living with his parents and little brother in Prey Veng province in Cambodia. His mother is a homemaker, and caregiver to Chhy's one-year-old brother, while his father works in a mobile phone shop in the local market. In early May, Chhy was playing with a friend in the village, when he was accidentally struck on the side of his face with a wood board, fracturing his jaw. Currently, he is experiencing acute pain and has trouble opening his mouth and eating. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Chhy receive treatment. On May 8th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a fracture repair procedure to fix a metal plate to the mandible, enabling the fracture to heal, and alleviating his pain. Chhy and his family are able to contribute $80 towards the cost of his treatment and need help raising $403 more to fund the procedure. Chhy says: "I hope that my jaw will be better, and I won't be in pain anymore."

Va is a former construction worker from Kandal province, Cambodia. He is 64 years old and married with two daughters, three sons, and five grandchildren. His youngest son still lives at home and works for the same construction company that Va worked for before his retirement. Their other children live nearby, and visit often with the grandchildren. At home, Va enjoys caring for the garden, spending time with family, and watching boxing. Around two years ago, Va developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Va learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 28th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Va shared, "I hope after surgery, I can see clearly again. Once my eye is better, I want to open a bicycle repair shop in front of my house so I can earn more money to support my family."

Sarou is a 58-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives with his wife and two of his four children in Sihanouk province. The other two children have moved out and help support the family by working in factory and construction jobs. At home, Sarou likes to listen to Buddhist radio and harvest fruit from the trees in the village. On February 26, 2024, Sarou was in a motorbike accident that caused a closed fracture on his left thigh. He was sent to a local hospital for surgery. On July 1, 2024, he was in another traffic accident that injured the same leg. Sarou now requires additional surgery to align the bone using metalwork. Currently, his left femur is swollen and he is in chronic pain. He is unable to walk or work. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 3rd, Sarou's family is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $383 to fund this procedure. After surgery, Sarou hopes the pain will be gone and he can return to work.
