Alima is a baby from Uganda. He is the firstborn in the family. His parents are separated, and he now lives with his mother in their maternal ancestral land. The mother is a small-scale farmer, and her income barely meets their daily needs. They live in a single-roomed mud house for shelter. During his free time, he enjoys playing with other children.
Four days ago, Alima began to experience troubling symptoms, including abdominal pain, distension, and vomiting. Last night he passed bloody stools. He was brought to Rushoroza hospital, was examined and an abdominal X-ray was done. He was diagnosed with Intestinal obstruction due to intussusception. Intussusception is a life-threatening illness and occurs when a portion of the intestine folds like a telescope, with one segment slipping inside another segment. This causes an obstruction, preventing the passage of food that is being digested through the intestine. An urgent laparotomy has been scheduled and he needs financial support to undergo the procedure.. He needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Alima receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo a curative laporotomy on November 29 at our medical partner’s care center. This procedure will cost $284, and Alima and his family need your support.
Alima’s mother says, “I believe the surgery will be successful and my child will live a comfortable life.”
