Siv Mean is an active four-year-old from Cambodia who likes to play with dolls and eat her mother’s soup. She is the only child in her family and is not yet old enough to attend school. Both of her parents work at a private nutrition company.
One month ago, Siv Mean developed a chalazion, or an inflamed cyst in the tear gland of her right eye. This has caused her to experience both swelling and redness. It is difficult for her to see clearly, and she constantly rubs her eye, which makes it worse.
Siv Mean and her family traveled for one hour to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. Her mother says, “I hope after surgery her eye will get better and I won’t worry about her eye.”

Siv Mean underwent eye surgery.
Siv Mean and her parents visited CSC to successfully remove the cyst from her eye. She’s now resting at home and although it may take a week or so for the swelling to disappear, Siv Mean is happy that her eye looks better. Siv Mean will no longer have a swollen eyelid or pain and she can live more comfortably. Her mom was happy that this treatment will help her be social with her family and friends without being ashamed of how her eye looked.
Siv Mean’s mother said: “I am relieved that Siv Mean’s eye has gotten better; she was uncomfortable and didn’t want to go anywhere. Thank you!”
