Sung is a retired fisherwoman from Cambodia who loves watching movies on TV. She has one son, two daughters, and five grandchildren. Since Sung’s husband has unfortunately passed away, she now lives alone near her daughter’s house and receives support from her children.
One year ago, Sung developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience light sensitivity, eye tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Sung learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On August 10th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Sung says, “I hope my vision can improve so I can make cakes to sell and do my housework well.”

Sung underwent eye surgery so she can see clearly and return to doing all her day-to-day tasks.
Sung had successful surgery, and after spending the night in the hospital, she was able to return home. Surgery was important to ensure she does not have a worsening of her condition. It may take several weeks before her vision is fully improved, but she is hopeful her eyesight will be better and she can go outside again to help her daughter at home. Her life will be better because the symptoms will be gone and she won’t be self-conscious about how her eye looks.
Sung said: “I am so lucky I could have my eye fixed so I can see normally again. It has been hard to work outside or fish to support myself. Thank you for paying for my surgery; I am very grateful that I see to help my family.”
