Eang is A 55-year-old female grocery seller from a small village in Kampong Cham Province. She is married and has two daughters and three grandchildren. She lives with her husband, who also sells groceries, and her oldest daughter, who works as a coffee seller. In her free time, Eang enjoys listening to the news on the radio.
About one year ago, Eang developed a cataract in her left eye. This causes her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. Eang is also worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Eang learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On March 9th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, our medical partner is requesting $263 to help fund this procedure.
Eang said, “I hope that after surgery, my vision will improve, the photophobia will stop, and I will be able to recognize things better so that I can return to selling groceries comfortably again.”
