In November 2015, 24-year-old Ny was in a moto accident that caused a left tibia fracture and knee dislocation. The same day of the accident he received open reduction internal fixation surgery at a local hospital, during which doctors set his tibia in place with a screw.
However, Ny’s left leg is still weak and he cannot walk without pain. He was referred to Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), with a tibia fracture and chronic knee dislocation. Subsequently, he traveled three hours with his mother to reach the clinic.
Ny works in a factory in Cambodia. He has three brothers and one sister, and he enjoys watching TV and listening to pop songs at home in his free time.
CSC surgeons will perform a joint arthrodesis surgery for $392 to fuse the knee and treat the fracture. This type of surgery is done to relieve unmanageable pain in a joint that cannot be dealt with using medication, splints, or other usual treatments.
“I hope after surgery I can walk and am not in pain,” says Ny. “When I am healed I will return to my work in the factory.”
