Saron is a 25-year-old woman from Cambodia. She works as a rice farmer, but she dreams of going to school to be a hairdresser or dress tailor.
Saron was born with a meningoencephalocele, a rare disorder caused by the failure of the neural tube to close during fetal development. Saron had corrective surgery for her condition in 2006, but she is embarrassed by the scarring on her face. The scarring makes her shy and afraid to go to school.
Saron’s doctor’s can do a simple reconstructive surgery on her nose. For $225, we can fund this surgery and allow her to feel more confident with how she looks, and no longer be susceptible to social stigma.
