Dorothy is a one-year-old girl from Uganda. She is the youngest of seven children. Her parents are small-scale farmers. Dorothy was brought to our medical partner's care center, Uganda Martyr's Ibanda Hospital, with a swelling around her umbilical area. Initially, the swelling was small and painless, so the family did not consider it a serious health concern. However, over the past two months, the swelling gradually increased in size, and three weeks ago, Dorothy started to experience pain. She was taken to the hospital and given treatment, but unfortunately, her condition continued to worsen. The pain became severe, making it difficult for her to breastfeed. She also began crying persistently, causing great concern and distress to her mother. Dorothy has an umbilical hernia and needs surgery to address her symptoms. Fortunately, on November 3rd, she will undergo repair surgery, and our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $201 to fund her procedure and care. Dorothy's mother says, "I am very happy and grateful to be connected to this program because I cannot manage to raise money for the operation of my daughter. I kindly request donors to consider my appeal. After surgery, I will continue farming activities and working hard to support my family.

Phan, who is 76 years old, is a retired rice farmer from Prey Veng province, Cambodia. He is married and has one son, three daughters, and seven grandchildren. He lives with his wife, who is also a retired rice farmer. About three years ago, Phan developed a cataract in his left eye, which causes him to experience itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly and is reluctant to go out on his own. When Phan learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours to seek treatment. On July 14th, doctors at our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery on Phan, during which an intraocular lens will be implanted in his left eye. After he has recovered, Phan will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs your help to fund this $263 procedure. Phan said: "I hope after surgery my eye can see better, so that I can easily recognize my relatives, and go places without having to worry about my eye anymore."

Demise is a 64-year-old farmer from Ethiopia. He and his wife work together on their farm and have twelve children. A year ago, Demise developed a cataract in his left eye and was diagnosed at a government-funded hospital. However, due to a scheduling error, Demise never received proper treatment. Now, Demise has thick, cloudy vision. He has difficulty walking on uneven ground, detecting familiar faces, and reading his Bible. Moreover, Demise finds farm work difficult and relies heavily on his family to manage his responsibilities. Fortunately, on November 4th, Demise will undergo cataract surgery with the help of our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. Surgeons will remove and replace the clouded lens, improving Demise's blurry vision. Now, he needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure. Demise states, "After a year of waiting, I only want to work my land again, see my family's faces clearly, and read my Bible. I want to stand on my own and not be a burden to anyone."
