“I want to see him grow strong and healthy and be successful,” says Axel’s mom. Axel is a six-month-old from Guatemala who is having some trouble in the growth and development department.
Axel is malnourished. His mom tells us, “I try to give Axel food, but he is only able to eat small amounts of gruel and porridge, which do not provide him with the nutrients he needs.” His mother and father work in agriculture, however times and crops have been tough.
Our medical partner Wuqu’ Kawoq tells us that “intervening now to promote his nutrition is the best chance we have of seeing Axel grow strong, healthy, and successful.” With $535, Axel will have malnutrition treatment that will improve his energy, appetite, growth, development, and cognitive and social functioning for when he goes to school. With our help, Axel will grow up healthy like his mom hopes. Let’s do this!

“I’m looking at Axel’s growth curve right now and things are very encouraging,” reports his doctor at our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq. “After several months of no growth at all, after just a few short weeks with Watsi-funded treatment, he’s growing again. Our nutrition staff also report that mom is really motivated, and has learned a lot about how to keep him healthy nutritionally in the months to come. We’ll continue to follow along to be certain that he continues to make gains and return towards normal development.”
“Thanks for helping me learn about nutrition, and what I would do to help my baby grow,” adds Axel’s mother.
