Ren is a 75-year-old woman from Cambodia who is married and has one son, four daughters, and 10 grandchildren. In her free time, she likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
About one year ago, Ren developed a cataract in each eye, which has caused her to experience blurred vision, tearing, sensitivity to light, and cloudy lenses. As a result, it is difficult for her to see things clearly, recognize faces, do any work, and go anywhere outside by herself.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $398 to fund small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant for each of Ren’s eyes. The surgery is scheduled to take place on July 3 and, once completed, will hopefully restore Ren’s vision to its former state and allow her to live more comfortably.

Ren underwent cataract surgery.
Her eye cataract was successfully removed from her left eye, and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, she was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and prevent infection. She will return soon for the same surgery on her right eye.
Ren says, “I feel very happy that I can see everything clearly again so that I can easily do any work and go anywhere outside by myself very well without needing to disturb others to take care of me.”
