Sathya is a 12-year-old boy from Cambodia. Sathya is a big soccer fan—he not only watches lots of matches on TV, but he also loves to play the game himself. Sathya is in the seventh grade and has one younger sister.
Sathya was born with ptosis in both eyes, a condition that causes the eyelids to droop. The disorder already causes vision problems for him, and if left untreated, could cause him to develop lazy eye or an astigmatism later down the line.
Fortunately, Sathya’s father heard about the subsidized healthcare available at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), from a friend who had had surgery there before. On June 9, Sathya will undergo an eyelid correction procedure on each eye. We can sponsor his surgery—as well as his medications and three-day hospital stay—for $266.
Connecting Sathya with this surgery now will help prevent him from developing vision problems later in life—and in the short term, will make sure he can see clearly enough to keep watching and playing soccer.
