Evelyn is a 10-year-old smart and friendly young girl who lives in Quibdó, Colombia with her family. Her joy and curiosity shine through every day at school, where she interacts with her classmates with enthusiasm and warmth. When she grows up, Evelyn wishes to become a great veterinarian. Since birth, Evelyn has had an umbilical hernia, a condition in which a small portion of abdominal tissue protrudes through the navel. The condition has been causing her discomfort and tenderness in the navel area, especially when performing activities like jumping, playing and enjoying her childhood. Surgery has been recommended to correct the hernia, and prevent possible future complications. Fortunately, Evelyn is scheduled for repair surgery on August 20th. Our medical partner, Clínica Noel, is requesting $1,005 to fund Evelyn's surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live a healthier life. Evelyn’s mother says, "I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your support in my daughter’s surgery. Yemariam is a social and active 3-year-old from Ethiopia who loves playing with her friends and toys. Her mother works as a secretary at a government institution, and her father works as a driver for a private company. Since birth, Yemariam has had an umbilical hernia, a condition in which tissue pushes through a weakened area around the belly button. Her mother first noticed the swelling shortly after Yemariam was born. The doctors examined her condition and advised the family that she might need surgery in the future if the condition did not resolve on its own. As Yemariam grew older and started attending school, her parents became increasingly concerned about her condition and its impact on her physical and emotional well-being. Her parents searched for a way to get her the surgery she needed. They first took Yemariam to a private hospital. The cost of the procedure was too high, so they visited a nearby health center, where Yemariam was referred to a higher-level government hospital and was placed on a surgery waitlist for the next month. During this time, the hospital referred Yemariam to our medical partner's care center. When Yemariam and her mother arrived, her mother was concerned that her condition was too complicated and she would not be able to receive the treatment she needed. After an assessment, the medical team explained Yemariam's condition and informed her mother that she could undergo surgery. Fortunately, on September 30th, Yemariam will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $512 to fund Yemariam's procedure. Once completed, this surgery will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. Yemariam's mother said, "Thank you so much to everyone who helped my daughter. I still can't believe it. I thank God for blessing you all. We had been waiting for four to five months, and now my daughter can receive the care she needed. Precious is a 30-year-old mother of two children from Uganda. She earns a living through a small business selling children's clothes from house to house, while her husband depends on casual labor for income. During her free time, she enjoys playing with her children and telling them stories. For the past seven years, Precious has lived with a swelling in her lower abdominal area. Over time, the swelling has progressively increased in size and become increasingly painful. What began as a health concern has developed into a significant obstacle in her daily life. The pain and discomfort have made it difficult for her to move around freely while looking for customers, limiting her ability to earn an income. Even performing ordinary household chores has become challenging, leaving her increasingly worried about how she will care for her children and manage her home. Precious was referred to our medical partner's care center, Rushoroza Hospital. The findings revealed a dermoid cyst requiring surgical excision. On October 31st, Precious will undergo surgery with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare. Now, Precious needs help to raise $261 to fund this procedure. Precious says, "For seven years, I have lived with this swelling, and the pain has made it difficult for me to move around and sell my clothes. This small business is how I try to provide for my children, but now even simple household work has become difficult. I have visited different health facilities hoping to find help, and I am relieved that the doctors at Rushoroza Hospital have identified a possible solution. Unfortunately, I cannot afford the cost of the operation because my business earns very little and my husband depends on casual work.
