Kamal is similar to many 4-year-old children: observant, excited, and full of energy. “Kamal enjoys playing all day long,” says his father. He is currently in kindergarten, and lives with his three older siblings and family in Nepal.
One day, Kamal tripped while he was playing on the porch outside his house, and he fractured his right femur. His leg has become swollen and is causing him a lot of pain. He also has been unable to make any movements on his own without help, and has been missing school since his injury.
Our medical partner, Possible, is able to bring him back to full recovery through a common procedure to realign his femur, and prolonged stabilization of his legs in a special cast called a hip spica during his recovery.
His in-patient treatment, X-rays and labs, and procedure costs $224, and within 90 days his leg will be fully recovered. He will soon be able to return to school and be active in the many ways he is used to.

“Immediately post-treatment, the hip spica will ensure that the aligned fractured bones will not be displaced,” shares our medical partner, Possible. “Because Kamal is a growing child, he needs to follow physiotherapy routine as rigorously as possible, even though it may hurt a little in the beginning. Kamal will also have to be careful that he does not put the pressure of his weight on the injured right leg. If Kamal regularly follows the physiotherapy routine, he will regain his mobility.”
Kamal’s parents are committed to making sure he stays healthy after his accident. “Though children this age tend to be playful and restless, I will have to ensure that Kamal is playing in a safe zone,” his father says.
