Hser is a 43-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her two daughters and her husband in a refugee camp in Umphang District, Tak Province, Thailand. Her family is originally from Karen State, Burma, but fled to the camp due to the fighting in their homeland. In the camp, her older daughter is a teacher while her younger daughter is a student. Her husband sometimes works as agriculture day laborer outside of the camp, while she is a homemaker. In October 2025, Hser started to notice a mass on her left breast. The mass was very small, so she thought it might go away by itself. But a few weeks later, the mass was still there, prompting her to go to the clinic in the camp. She was referred to a bigger hospital, where doctors informed her she may have cancer and would need surgery to prevent the cancer from spreading. However, she did not have the financial resources to undergo surgery. In August 2026, the mass started to grow bigger and cause her pain. She visited our medical partner's care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, where doctors informed her she needs to undergo a mastectomy, surgery to remove her breast. Fortunately, our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, can help. On September 1st, Hser will undergo surgery, and she needs help raising $1,500 to help cover the cost of her procedure and care. Hser said, "When I learned that I have cancer, I started to worry - and even though I receive surgery, will I recover from it? When it started to be painful, I thought I would need surgery so that it wouldn't be painful anymore. When I heard from my daughter that there is an organization that could support me with surgery costs, I feel a bit better. If not for the support from donors, I would give up on surgery and choose to suffer, as I know my family could not afford it."

Srey Neth is a cheerful little girl from Cambodia. She is 21 months old and lives with her parents and three older siblings. Her oldest brother is in Grade 5, her second brother is in Grade 1, and her older sister is five years old. Her father works in construction, while her mother stays home to care for the children and manage the household. Her favorite foods are sour fish soup and oranges. During her free time, she enjoys playing with slime with her older sister and watching cartoons together. Srey Neth has congenital pseudarthrosis of the right tibia, a condition that causes the bone to develop and heal abnormally. Her right lower leg is curved, and despite previous surgery and pin placement, the bone has not healed properly. The unhealed tibia and leg position affect the stability and development of her right leg. She needs further surgery to stabilize the bone and support healing so that she can have a better chance of standing, walking, and playing normally as she grows. Srey Neth's family learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and sought treatment. On August 13th, Srey Neth will undergo surgery that will improve her strength and mobility. Now, she needs help to fund this $582 procedure. Srey Neth's mother said, “I hope this surgery will stabilize my daughter’s right tibia and give her bone a better chance to heal so that, as she grows, she can eventually stand, walk, and play normally.”

Anna is an eight-year-old student from Haiti. She lives in Port-au-Prince with her mother, father, and two younger brothers. Her father is a store clerk, and her mother is a teacher. She is in the third grade and likes all of her classes. Anna has a cardiac condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This condition involves several related defects, including a hole between the two lower chambers of the heart and a muscular blockage of one of the valves. These defects prevent her body from obtaining the oxygen it needs, leaving her weak and short of breath. Anna needs to fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On October 19th, she will undergo heart surgery, during which time surgeons will sew a patch over the hole in her heart and remove the blockage from her valve. Another organization, Haitian Hearts Foundation, is contributing $8,000 to pay for surgery. Anna's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover labs, medicines, and check-up and follow-up appointments. It also supports securing travel documents for the family and travel costs for the social workers from our medical partner, who will accompany Anna's family overseas. Anna's mother says, "Our family is hopeful that after this surgery, our daughter will have normal health for the first time."
