Ory is a 68-year-old rice farmer who lives with and takes care of her brother, who has a developmental disability. During her free time, she likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Five years ago, Ory developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience light sensitivity, eye tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly and this has made caring for herself and her brother more challenging.
When Ory learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 7th, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Ory says, “I hope my eye can see clearly again so I can keep planting rice and caring for my brother.”

Ory underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly and care for her brother.
Ory has been the primary breadwinner of her family and needs to work to support her brother. To earn a living, Ory has managed their farm and faces financial difficulty when harvests are not productive. With poor eyesight, it has been very difficult for Ory to be outside unless someone is with her. When a villager told her about CSC, she had a simple cataract procedure that changed her life. Ory was able to return home the next day with antibiotic eye drops to instill eight times a day. One week post-operatively, Ory is able to distinguish colors and recognize faces from her affected eye. Improved vision will help Ory manage her farm better, and support her financially.
Ory shared, “Thank you to the staff and the donors who paid for me have this surgery. The hospital staff put me at ease, and I was grateful to be in their good hands. I can see now and am pleased my life will be better.”
