Jefferson and his twin brother were born six months ago in Guatemala. When they were two months old, their mother was diagnosed with a virus. She could no longer breastfeed her sons. Formula is expensive, so Jefferson and his brother were on a limited diet. Lactation failure can lead to starvation, dehydration, seizures, and long-term brain damage.
Lactation failure, however, is easy to treat. By supplying Jefferson with formula and his mother with health education, Jefferson will receive the calories he needs to grow and thrive. Jefferson’s immune system will strengthen, and he will grow to be a healthy, energetic baby.
Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, has requested $1,107 for fund treatment, including micronutrients, milk formula, a nutritionist, and visits from a community health worker. The treatment will begin on January 17.
“I dream that Jefferson recuperates fast,” Jefferson’s mother shares, “and that he becomes a good man and is in good health always.”

Jefferson received nutritional supplementation.
Since beginning treatment for lactation failure, Jefferson has been gaining weight and growing taller. With continued treatment, we are confident that Jefferson will continue to grow and develop healthily.
Jefferson’s mother says, “I am very grateful, may God bless the association for the great support we have received.”
