Khorn is a 61-year-old farmer from Kampong Cham province. Since childhood, he has worked on farms, planting and harvesting crops such as potatoes and bananas and selling them to the local markets. His wife and daughter also work on the farm to support the family. At home, he enjoys gardening and growing fruits and vegetables for his family.
About two years ago, Khorn developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Khorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On April 8th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Khorn can contribute $75 but needs help to raise $178 more to fund his procedure and care.
Khorn said, “I am hoping that after my eye surgery, my vision will improve and I can return to the farm without pain or worrying about my vision.”
