Soa enjoys watching TV news and listening to the monks pray. The 74-year-old Cambodian woman is married with five sons, two daughters, and ten grandchildren.
Soa has difficulty doing work and getting around on her own due to cataracts that she developed in each eye ten years ago. The cataracts cause her blurred vision, tearing, headaches, and photophobia (an extreme sensitivity to light).
In order to restore her vision and relieve her pain and discomfort, Soa requires phacoemulsification surgery. During this $225 procedure, doctors at Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will break apart Soa’s clouded lenses and replace them with clear implant lenses.
Soa traveled three hours with her daughter to reach CSC. Let’s help fund her important treatment.

Soa successfully received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Soa’s eye cataract was successfully removed from her left eye and clear vision has been restored! She went home after the first surgery and has yet to return for the operation of the other eye. Because returning to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, she may have had trouble finding a day to come back. Also, because she left with clear vision in one eye, her problems with blurred vision are less of a burden making the second surgery a less immediate priority than the first. The second surgery will be free whenever she returns.
“I feel very happy that I can see everything clear again so that I can easily do any housework,” says Soa, “I can also go anywhere outside easily.”
