Visot is a 70-year-old farmer and a widow with two sons, four daughters, and many grandchildren. She lives with her daughter who is also a farmer. She shared that since her husband passed away one year ago, she has been depressed and has had trouble managing the farm by herself. When Visot is not farming or managing the small cattle herd that they own, she likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Two years ago, Visot developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, photophobia. She is reluctant to travel outside her house and is afraid she will fall if she goes out alone.
When Visot learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On January 5th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and will place an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Visot said, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly. I hope I can easily recognize my relatives, can go to the pagoda and join ceremonies in my community.”
