David is a 14-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives in Phnom Penh with his parents and younger sister. His mom works in a garment factory, and his dad is a vegetable seller in their local market. David is currently in the eighth grade and is an aspiring writer. His favorite hobby is reading.
In March 2023, David noticed a lump near his jaw. He visited a nearby hospital where he was diagnosed with ameloblastoma - a benign mass that forms near the jawline. The cause of David’s ameloblastoma is not known, but they can sometimes form after injury or infections. David experiences pain and discomfort around his jaw. His parents are worried that without treatment the ameloblastoma will grow in size.
When David and his family learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, they traveled for a half hour seeking treatment. On June 15th, David will undergo a mass removal surgery at CSC’s care center. His procedure will also include a bone graft to help him feel comfortable again. Now, David and his family need help raising $673 to fund this procedure.
David’s mom said that she hopes David will not be uncomfortable anymore and can return to school quickly.

David underwent jaw surgery so he can live comfortably and is excited to return to school.
David and his family traveled to our medical partner CSC to have his jaw treated as he had developed a mass. They found out that fortunately the mass on his jaw was not cancerous. After surgery, David experienced some swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the face and jaw area which is a common after effect of the surgery. The surgeon prescribed pain medication and ice packs for relief and assured his family that the symptoms will improve over time. David was recommended a soft diet to avoid placing excessive stress on the jaw. As he heals, he would be able to reintroduce solid foods gradually. David is thrilled the mass is gone and looks forward to returning to school.
David said “I’m happy I will no longer have pain or a mass on my jaw. I am so thankful that I was able to go to CSC and will be able to eat again soon.”
