Khuon is a 71-year-old rice farmer from Kandal province, who lives with his wife who sells Khmer cakes in local market. They have four sons, five daughters and 13 grandchildren. In his free time, Khoun likes going to the pagoda and visiting his grandchildren.
One week ago, his left eye was hit by a flying wood chip. Khuon developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him pain, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Khuon learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On August 2nd, doctors will perform intra-capsular cataract extraction (ICCE), corneal wound repair, and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Khuon was able to contribute $50 towards his medical care but needs help raising the remaining $203 in funds.
Khuon said: “I hope after surgery I can see better and I can help my wife make Khmer cakes.”
