Felipa is a 47-year-old woman who lives with her family in Guatemala. “She has several young children still, as well as her first grandchildren, and she would like to be healthy for many years to come in order to spend time with them,” our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK), writes.
For the last several months, Felipa has experienced irregular abdominal bleeding. After ultrasound examination, it was also found that Felipa has irregular thickened lining of the uterus. “This is concerning, because it is worrisome for endometrial cancer, something that she has a strong family history of,” the WK team tells us.
“When I first started bleeding I was so scared, because it reminds me of what happened to other people in my family who have had cancer,” says Felipa.
To be able to rule out endometrial cancer as a cause for Felipa’s symptoms, she’ll need to have an endometrial biopsy. Felipa’s family works in subsistence farming and they would be unable to finance this procedure. In addition, Felipa speaks K’ichee’, a Mayan language, and is scared of being alone in the hospital environment and being unable to understand her clinicians when they speak Spanish.
But we can help. With $260 we can ensure that Felipa gets the biopsy with the personalized support and care which the WK team will be able to provide her. Let’s help Felipa get to the bottom of her condition so she can see her children and grandchildren grow for years to come.
