Arifin is a 19-month-old boy from Cambodia. He is the youngest of three children. His parents are corn farmers, and his older brother and sister are in Grade 6 and Grade 3. At home, he enjoys playing with his siblings and drinking milk.
Arifin was born with developmental dysplasia of the left hip (DDH), a condition in which the hip joint does not develop properly. His mother became concerned when she noticed that he walked with a waddling gait after he started walking. His left leg also appeared shorter than his right, prompting the family to seek medical care. He was referred to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for further assessment and treatment.
Although Arifin has already undergone treatment for his left hip, a follow-up X-ray showed that the hip was still not properly positioned in the joint. He needs another procedure to help improve its position. On October 23rd, he is scheduled to undergo a left hip arthrogram and hip spica cast procedure at CSC. The procedure will cost $452, and Arifin’s family needs your help to raise this amount.
Arifin’s mother said, “I hope my little boy’s hip will improve with this treatment so he can learn to walk more comfortably as he grows. I want him to play happily with his brother and sister and enjoy being a child. I’m grateful to the doctors for continuing to care for him and giving him this opportunity.”
