Luisa is just three months old and she lives with her mother, father, and two siblings in Guatemala. “Both of the other children are quite a bit older, and so Lucia’s parents were overjoyed to be pregnant again,” writes our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK).
“However, unfortunately, mom’s milk didn’t come in and this has been a major source of stress. They can’t afford to buy milk formula and they feel helpless, watching their child lose weight.”
Luisa’s mom tells us that “without your help, I don’t know what to do” - she is hopeful that WK will be able to support Luisa through these critical months. With $1,220, WK will be able to provide the necessary supplementation and growth monitoring that guarantees Luisa will develop normally and meet her full potential.

Luisa received treatment for malnutrition.
The treatment was a success!
“Luisa has been receiving formula and nutrition education support, and she has responded amazingly well,” says her doctor. “She’s gone from having a dangerously low weight to having a normal weight. Her energy and motor development are remarkable. This is a child who should go on to develop completely normally and have normal cognitive potential, all thanks to this early and effective intervention. We’ll continue to provide support until she reaches one year of age.”
“Luisa’s mom is especially happy to see how much she smiles and how vigorously she moves around,” the doctor continues. “She’s looking forward to seeing her grow over the coming year!”
