Meet Juan! He is an awesome six-year-old from Guatemala. Unfortunately, he has had many months of recurrent cramping and pain from kidney stones. The doctors haven’t yet determined the kind of kidney stones, preventing proper treatment.
Juan’s mother is a community health promoter, dedicated to the health of the people in her community. However, she is unable to afford medical treatment for her son.
For $300, Juan’s doctors can find out exactly what kind of kidney stones Juan has and develop the proper nutritional plan to prevent them from recurring.

Juan received a nutritional plan to prevent kidney stones from occurring.
Juan is feeling much better and has no lasting damage to his kidneys. Doctors at our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, determined that his kidney stones were caused by elevated levels of calcium in his urine. As a result, Juan is now on a treatment plan to prevent this from happening in the future.
“Juan’s mom is one of our community health workers, and it is an extra special honor to be able to help out those who help out so much in their own communities,” said Dr. Peter Rohloff, the Medical Director at Wuqu’ Kawoq. “She is exceedingly grateful for the assistance.”
