Yim is 83. She has four children and seven grandchildren, and “likes to listen to the radio and visit the pagoda to hear the monks speak,” our medical partner tells us.
For the past four years, Yim has felt like a burden on her family due to increasingly poor and blurry vision. Our partners at Children’s Surgical Centre met with Yim and observed that “she is now partially blind because of a cataract in her left eye.” The cataract prevents Yim from reading or watching TV, and makes her reliant on her family for daily help.
If left untreated, Yim’s cataract could result in permanent blindness. Fortunately, our partners at Children’s Surgical Centre can perform a small incision cataract surgery that will restore Yim’s vision for just $100.
