Santiago is a cheerful 34-year-old man who lives in a remote area of Guatemala. A severe high tension electricity accident resulted in the amputation of Santiago’s left forearm and severe burning.
Ever since his accident, Santiago has had trouble working or performing chores at home. Because of his location and the high cost of prosthetics in Guatemala, Santiago has previously been unable to receive medical attention.
For $940, Santiago will be fitted for a prosthetic arm and regain the ability to use his left arm.

Santiago received a prosthetic to regain the use of his left arm.
Dr. Peter Rohloff, one of Santiago’s doctors and the Medical Director at our partner Wuqu’ Kawok, had this to say about Santiago’s progress:
“Santiago was successfully fitted with an arm. Due to the nature of his traumatic amputation, he had significant scarring in the residual limb, which made the fitting a bit difficult, but again the advantage of this adjustable prosthetic we are using is that it is very forgiving and accommodates a wide range of anatomy. Santiago had experience with a prosthetic arm in the past, which he “wore out” so he’s excited to get back to full functionality again.”
“Santiago thanks donors for, once again, stepping up to help with a medical device which is priced out of range for those who need it,” Dr. Rohloff said. “He would not have been able to afford this on his own!”
