Elvis is a 19-year-old young man from Kenya. He is the third-born in a family of four children. Originally from Kakamega county, he moved to Kiambu County with his two brothers in search of jobs to support their family. Currently, they work as casual laborers at construction sites. Elvis was thriving at work until just three weeks ago, when he was involved in a devastating traffic accident. After getting out of a vehicle, he accidentally fell, and the same vehicle ran over his hand. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors discovered that he had sustained fractures in his arm. Although he was fitted with a plaster cast, the bones did not heal as hoped, leading him to seek help at our medical partner's care center, Nazareth Hospital. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Elvis receive treatment. On August 22nd, he will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). If left untreated, Elvis's arm may develop complications such as malunion and become misshapen. Now, his family needs help to fund this $1,048 procedure. Elvis says, “Since my hand was injured, I have been unable to care for my needs because I cannot work with an injured arm. I hope to receive assistance to pay for my surgery, as it's the only solution. After the surgery, I hope to be able to work again and get back on my feet.”

Nancy is a 30-year-old mother of two children from Uganda. Both her children are school going. Nancy studied up until Senior 4 and afterwards obtained a certificate to teach children in nursery school. However, she is still yet to find a stable job, so she decided to try out business. She now operates a small retail shop in her neighborhood, and couples this with small scale farming to complement her income. Her husband previously worked as a construction site supervisor, but unfortunately lost his job in April, and now practices small scale farming alongside her. During her free time, Nancy enjoys spending time with her children. Nancy is currently expecting her third child. Due to a higher-risk pregnancy, doctors have recommended that she deliver via a Caesarean section. This way, they can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Nancy undergo a C-section on July 4th. Now, Nancy needs help to fund this $252 procedure. Nancy says, "I'm reaching out to ask for your assistance in covering the cost of my delivery. With your help, I'm confident that I'll be able to successfully deliver a healthy baby and continue running my business, which is crucial for supporting my family."

Talina is a mother of two children from Malawi. Her older son works in construction, and the youngest is in school. Talina’s husband works as a mechanic while she sells second-hand clothes. Talina likes chatting with the family and enjoys eating chips served with fish. Since October 2023, Talina has been experiencing abdominal pains and bleeding. She has been diagnosed with huge uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. She was scheduled for surgery at a nearby hospital, but due to a long wait list, the surgery was never done. Her condition worsened, affecting her business as she spent more time at home or visiting hospitals. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. They are requesting $1,363 to fund Talina's surgery. On July 6th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once recovered, Talina will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Talina said, “I am so happy to have been considered for financial support. I have hope that the surgery will restore my health enabling me to live a healthy life again and resume my business afterward.”
