Baby Heidy is three months old and the youngest of six children. She lives with her family in rural Guatemala. Her mother looks after the children and household, while her father works as a day laborer.
Heidy has been diagnosed with malnutrition. Her mother has been unable to breast feed, and the family cannot afford to purchase baby formula. The lack of nutrients in Heidy’s diet puts her at risk of developing long-term brain damage.
Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, will begin Heidy’s treatment by providing a supply of baby formula and micronutrient supplements. They have also scheduled a nutritionist to visit the family home and created a personalized treatment plan for Heidy. This treatment is set to begin on May 9 and will cost a total of $1,162.
Heidy’s mother says, “I hope for my daughter to grow up and become a teacher one day.”
Let’s help Heidy achieve this goal by giving her the chance to grow up healthy and strong!

Heidy received successful malnutrition treatment.
Since beginning treatment for lactation failure, Heidy has been growing bigger and stronger, and she has even gained enough weight to measure in at a healthy weight for her age. Heidy’s mother says that Heidy has not fallen ill since their family has started consuming clean water with the filter they received upon entering into the program, and she also reports that she has learned a great deal in the nutrition classes, and is putting her new knowledge into practice. With continued treatment, we are confident that Heidy will continue along this healthy trajectory.
Heidy’s mother says, “I am grateful for the help you are giving us in the program. Now my daughter plays with her brother and is a happy baby.”
