Lay is a 69-year-old woman who is married with three daughters, three sons, and six grandchildren. She enjoys visiting the pagoda to listen to the monks pray and watching Khmer dramas on TV.
Lay traveled one hour with her daughter to reach Children’s Surgical Centre for cataract treatment. Lay developed a cataract in each eye one year ago, causing her blurred vision and tearing. She can’t see clearly, do work well, or get around easily on her own.
For $292, Lay will undergo a phaco procedure and Intraocular Lens (IOL) implants in each eye, allowing her to see clearly again.
“I hope I can see clearly again so I can look after my grandchildren,” shares Lay.

Lay successfully underwent cataract surgery.
Lay, a 69-year-old grandmother from Cambodia, developed a cataract in her right eye which for a long time now has blurred her vision and made it difficult for her to get around with ease.
After traveling to the hospital from her rural village, Lay has now received successful cataract surgery! The doctors have removed her clouded lenses and is now on her way to a full recovery. She is back at home now and healing, and with some time, is expected to see a full restoration of her vision.
“I feel very happy that I can see everything clear again,” shares Lay, “I can do any work and easily go to the pagoda or anywhere else outside without needing to disturb others.”
