Lita is an inquisitive 6-year-old student. She is in grade one at the local public school and loves all her subjects. She has decided she would like to teach the Khmer language when she is older. Lita has a two-year-old brother and enjoys playing with him when she is not in school. Both of her parents are farmers in their province, which is seven hours away from the capital of Phnom Penh.
For the past two years, Lita has been experiencing recurrent infections with fever, sore throat, and difficulty swallowing. She does not eat well and often has a fever. She has missed school frequently because she feels so poorly. Lita was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $241 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Lita, which is scheduled to take place on March 15th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Lita of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably.
Her mother said: “We hope after surgery Lita will be healthy again. We worry about her because she is sick so often, and doesn’t sleep or eat well.”
