Chhuong is a 45-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He is married and lives in Prey Veaeng Province with his wife, who manages household duties and takes care of their three children, all of whom are students. In his free time, he enjoys planting vegetables around his home. In April 2024, Chhuong sustained a left distal femur injury following a fall from stairs, resulting in a fracture in his left distal femur. He previously underwent surgical fixation of the left distal femur with a plate and screws in a hospital in Thailand to stabilize the fracture and promote healing. About six months after the surgery, he slipped and fell again. Since then, he has been experiencing left thigh pain for the past six months, associated with loosening of the implant. The condition has caused difficulty in walking, and he currently relies on crutches for mobility. It significantly affects his daily activities and work capacity. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 10th, Chhuong will undergo a hardware removal procedure, which will help relieve pain, reduce discomfort, and improve mobility, allowing him to walk more comfortably and return to his normal daily and work activities. He can contribute $50, but needs help raising $328 more to fund his procedure and care. Chhuong said, “Today, I hope the surgery to remove the hardware goes well. I look forward to the next steps in my treatment so that my pain can improve and I can walk more comfortably again.”

Sineth is 35 years old and a mother of two from Cambodia. Her 12-year-old son has Down syndrome and cannot speak yet. Her husband works in the military, and she stays at home to care for her children, especially her son. Despite limited income and family challenges, she remains devoted to supporting her family. In her free time, she enjoys listening to the news. Since childhood, Sineth had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Sineth experiences hearing loss, recurrent ear discharge, and occasional discomfort. Due to her hearing loss, she has difficulty communicating clearly with others and sometimes cannot hear her children properly. This makes it harder for her to care for her son, who requires special attention, and manage daily responsibilities at home. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is helping Sineth receive treatment. On February 23rd, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Her family can contribute $100, but needs help to raise the remaining $263 more to fund her procedure and care. Sineth said, “I hope after the surgery I will be able to hear clearly again, so I can care for my children better and communicate with my family without difficulty. I am very thankful for this opportunity.”

Chepkat is an 11-year-old girl from Kenya. She comes from a pastoralist family whose livelihood has always depended on keeping goats and cattle. Due to the harsh, isolated nature of their residence, Chepkat has never had the opportunity to attend school. Her parents survive through livestock keeping, but recently their family suffered a major setback when raiders attacked their homestead and drove away their cattle, leaving them with nothing. One afternoon, while trying to pick fruit from a tree, Chepkat accidentally stepped on a dry branch that suddenly broke beneath her. She fell heavily to the ground and immediately experienced severe pain. Due to the remoteness of their home, the family had to travel nearly two hours to reach the nearest health facility. At the first facility, she was immobilized and later referred to another hospital, where she was managed conservatively with bed rest and pain medication. However, her condition did not improve, and her pain persisted. Chepkat was referred to our medical partner's care center, AIC Kapsowar Hospital, where an x-ray revealed a fracture of the head of her hip bone, a serious injury that requires urgent surgical intervention. She needs an urgent Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF) to stabilize and repair the bone. On March 11th, Chepkat will undergo a fracture repair procedure. She needs help so that she can receive the operation she needs and regain the chance to walk and live a healthy and active life. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,247 to fund this procedure. Chepkat's mother says, "My child is in pain and cannot stand, please help her so she can regain her mobility."
