Mitheala is a 43-year-old man from Kampong Cham province. He is married and lives with his wife and their two children. Mitheala is currently in the military and serves as a guard in his province. In his free time, he enjoys exercising and listening to the news, which helps him stay active and informed.
Several months ago, Mitheala developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him blurry vision, and lately it has become difficult to see clearly. He also has photophobia, making it uncomfortable to be in bright or low light. This has affected his ability to do his job properly, and he is currently not able to work. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Mitheala learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On September 2nd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. He can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $163 more to cover the cost of his procedure and care.
Mitheala said, “I hope that after surgery, my eyes will recover so I can see better, return to my duties more, and no longer worry about my vision.”
