Olga is a 40-year-old woman from Guatemala. Her diabetes has been treated by our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, for over two years. On November 24, she began insulin treatment. This treatment will will help her control her diabetes, lower her blood pressure, and prevent life-threatening damage to her kidneys or vision problems.
Olga is an incredibly hard-working woman who wakes up every morning before dawn. She travels two hours on public transport to sell fruit and vegetables in the market. She uses her income to send her nine-year-old daughter to school. However, she cannot afford the treatment she needs to avoid life-threatening complications. She needs help to raise $1,500.
This treatment will prevent Olga from experiencing the effects of uncontrolled diabetes. She will receive insulin, blood pressure medications, and education. Once her glucose levels normalize, she will no longer be at risk of dangerous blood sugar highs. She will have renewed energy to work and support herself and her daughter.

Olga sadly and unexpectedly passed away during treatment.
Our medical partner has been treating Olga for her diabetes for several years. Olga had trouble using insulin as well as getting labs done and making it to her appointments. In February, they began visiting her in her home, where they could tailor care to her environment. Unfortunately, Olga began to experience the long-term effects of uncontrolled diabetes, such as swelling of the face and feet, weakness and sickness, and difficulty breathing. We are deeply saddened to report that she passed away due to diabetes-related kidney failure.
We are committed to reporting all outcomes transparently—even the ones we wish were different. Thank you so much for your support of Olga and her family.
