Rosemary is a small-scale farmer and a mother of 8 children. She shared that her husband passed away in 2010. She practices small-scale farming to make ends meet. Her children are mostly all grown now and live independently.
Twenty-five years ago, Rosemary first experienced a slight, painless swelling in her neck, but it grew over time into significant swelling. As a result, she experiences airway obstruction and fatigue and is unable to do strenuous work. Rosemary was unable to visit a hospital before, but with her persistent symptoms, she recently visited the hospital at our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH). She was diagnosed with a non-toxic multinodular goiter, and doctors recommended surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Fortunately, On November 23rd, Rosemary will undergo a thyroidectomy, where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. AMH is requesting $333 to fund her procedure.
Rosemary shared, “I pray that I may look normal again through surgery. I have lived in this condition for quite a long time, but I hope to live differently after the surgery. I hope to proceed with farming comfortably after complete recovery.”
