Soklinda is the youngest of two children. She lives with her parents and 12-year-old brother in Kandal province, Cambodia. Her parents run a small grocery store from their home to support the family. At home, Soklinda enjoys eating rice with fried pork and watching cartoons on her mom’s phone.
Soklinda was born with right hip developmental dysplasia (DDH), a condition where the hip joint does not develop properly. This causes the femoral head or thigh bone to dislocate from the hip socket, leading to her right leg being shorter than her left. This condition has also affected her spine alignment, making it difficult for her to move comfortably and maintain good posture. Her mother is especially concerned about how these challenges will affect Soklinda’s ability to start school and sit comfortably at a desk as she grows.
Soklinda and her mother were referred by her uncle to Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC) for treatment. On December 4th, Soklinda will undergo a surgical procedure to address her condition. The surgery will reposition the dislocated hip joint, reshape her thigh bone, and reposition part of her pelvic bone for better hip joint support. After the surgery, Soklinda will wear a cast to immobilize her hip and leg, allowing the joint to heal properly. Soklinda’s family can contribute $100 and needs your support to raise the remaining $385 for this procedure.
Soklinda’s mother shared, “I hope Soklinda will grow up healthy and be able to attend school happily.”
