David is a 14-year-old boy from Prey Veng province in Cambodia. As his parents work on fishing boats in Thailand, David lives with his grandmother, his older sister, her husband, and their son. David has never been to school and requires full-time care from his grandmother. David was born with severe scoliosis and has never been able to stand up or walk. Due to his condition, David is also in a lot of pain. David and his family traveled three and a half hours to visit our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, for a consultation. On March 6th, David will undergo spinal fusion surgery to straighten his bones. This procedure can relieve him of pain and prevent the condition from worsening. David and his family need your help to fund the $1,500 cost of the surgery and post-op care. David's grandmother said: "We hope he can feel better and not be in pain."

Saw Ta is a 36-year-old farmer who lives with his wife and eight children in a village in Karen State, Burma. Saw Ta plants chili and cardamom and volunteers as a community development worker in his area. The family also raises chickens, goats, and pigs. Saw Ta has a heart condition that requires the replacement of the aortic and mitral heart valves and the repair of the tricuspid valve. These valves control the blood flow between the chambers of the heart and are necessary to prevent long-term damage to the heart and lungs. Saw Ta gets tired easily and experiences heart palpitations when he is working, requiring him to take frequent periods of rest. As he cannot work long hours on the farm, he stays home to take care of his children while his wife goes out to work. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 for the complex surgery that Saw Ta's condition requires. The procedure is scheduled to take place at Kasemrad Prachachuen Hospital on April 10th, and once completed, will hopefully allow Saw Ta to live a fuller and healthier life. Saw Ta said: "After treatment, I will go back to help my wife on the farm, and also continue to volunteer in my community. Now, because of my heart condition, my wife has to do all the work at home and I feel sorry for her."

Khemarin is a 32-year-old tuk-tuk taxi driver from Cambodia. He lives with his wife, two children, sister, and his parents. Khemarin's wife manages the household and helps his mother sell groceries out of their home, while his father is retired. During his free time, Khemarin likes to play soccer and cultivate vegetables in his backyard. In March 2024, Khemarin's tricycle collided with a car. His tuk-tuk was badly damaged and he dislocated his left elbow when he fell on the concrete. He could not afford the cost of a local clinic and sought the help of a Khmer traditional healer. However, in the past month, his elbow has become more deformed. Khemarin cannot flex his arm due to the constant pain. He has impaired movement and tingling in his left fifth finger, which may be an indication of nerve damage. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 7th, Khemarin will undergo a fracture repair procedure for his dislocated elbow, return the sensation to his finger, and improve his range of motion. Khemarin and his family are able to contribute $87.50 but need your help to raise $396 more to fund the procedure.
