Nalin is a 23-year-old factory worker. She lives with her mother and siblings as her father died when she was only six years old. In her free time, Nalin enjoys spending time with her friends.
A year ago, Nalin had a severe ear infection in her right ear. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, or an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. Now it is difficult for her to hear and she experiences chronic pain.
Nalin traveled to visit our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), to receive treatment. On September 7th, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure where ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Now, CSC is requesting $925 to fund this procedure. This will cover the cost of medication, supplies, and inpatient care.
Nalin shared, “I hope I can hear better and my ear pain will go away after this surgery.”

Nalin underwent a mastoidectomy so she can hear and communicate better.
Nalin and her family traveled to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre for her treatment. After surgeons were sure she had no complications, Nalin was able to return to her province. She is relieved she no longer has the symptoms of her ear disease. She can return to work without worrying about the infection coming back. She no longer has fevers or discharge and can communicate better with friends and family.
Her mother said: “Thank you to the staff for everything to keep Nalin safe from this disease. She is happy again and it will make her life better. She will be able to work regularly and bring home money to support our family.”
