“My prayer is for my baby to grow up without any problems,” Nairorie’s mother tells us.
Nairorie is a beautiful one-year-old girl from Tanzania. She has an intestinal obstruction that prevents her from passing stool normally. Her condition puts her at risk of critical malnourishment, as well as life-threatening infection. This condition is common in Tanzanian babies. Without access to healthcare, most of them don’t survive.
Like many people in Tanzania, Nairorie’s parents are subsistence farmers, meaning they only cultivate enough produce for themselves to live on (they don’t earn cash). Unfortunately, this means that despite their love for their daughter, they can’t afford her care.
For $1,200, we can fund Nairorie’s colostomy, posterior sagittal anorectoplasty, and colostomy closure to set her up to function normally. This will open all kinds of doors for her, like going to school, making friends, and one day getting a job, that would otherwise have been closed to her. Let’s do this!
