Sakhana is an eight-year-old girl from Cambodia. She lives with her parents and older brother in Phnom Penh. Her mother works as a manicurist in a salon, while her father is a police officer. Sakhana is in second grade and dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up. She loves to eat fish soup, and at home, she enjoys doing homework with her brother and playing outside.
For around two years, Sakhana has been experiencing recurrent nasal congestion, snoring, and a sore throat. Frequent illness causes her to feel tired and miss school. Sakhana was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sakhana, which is scheduled to take place on April 9th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sakhana of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably.
Sakhana’s mother said, “I hope she has surgery and feels healthy again so she can focus on school.”
